Breastfeeding or Bottle feeding

A lot of researches show that breast milk is the best choice for both mother and child. One of the main advantages of it is that it is naturally manufactured by the body during pregnancy and contains all the essential nutrients that a baby needs.Breast milk contains the balanced amount of carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins, fats and iron.It has antibodies that strengthens the immune system of the baby and also protect the baby against infection.
But despite of these nutritional advantages, some women may be unable to breastfeed because of some medical or practical reasons.Such as if a woman has a blood-borne virus like hepatitis B or HIV,or if she is taking a certain type of medication ,then these can be passed to her baby through her breast milk.In this type of cases, bottle feeding the baby using formula milk will usually be recommended.
Now a days formula milk is commercially available and it is widely used.It is considered to be a safe and convenient alternative.
So before deciding whether to breastfeed or bottle feed the baby, the mother should fully aware of the advantages and disadvantages of both methods. If she has any question then she should consult her doctor, practice nurse, midwife or a breastfeeding counsellor for help.

Toxoplasmosis

Some pet cats who hunt mice or birds can get an infection which is called toxoplasmosis. This infection is found in a cat's faeces ; accidental ingestion or direct handling  of the faeces by a pregnant woman could put her and the developing foetus at risk. This infection can cause severe problems for the baby. For this reason,an  expected mother should not change the litter box.
A pregnant woman cannot be infected by touching her cat,or having the cat sleep in bed with  her.
Most indoor cats do not hunt , and have never been exposed to toxoplasmosis that's why they  pose no risk to a pregnant woman or the baby.
Be ware that toxoplasmosis can exist in the soil(where cat faeces may be),so an expected mother should wear gloves and wash her hands after working in the garden.
